Seven Fun Team Building Activities!

The best team building activities are activities that create smiles and no uncomfortableness! Examples of some of the best team building activities are ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees, CUP!’ and ‘Drawing Ahead’.

Below are instructions to seven of the best team building activities. We’ve played all these games in thousands of our Laughtercise Corporate Team Building WorkshopsΒ and they always go down a treat! Some of them are wild compared to normal (and boring!) team building activities ⚑

Head, Shoulders, Knees & CUP!

❌ WARNING! ❌ This game will create huge competition and bouts of wild laughter!

Check out several teams playing this gameΒ  πŸ‘‡

You can ramp up the fun by adding chocolate! Look how wild it got when a team battled it out for crème eggs

You will need:

πŸ“ Paper cups (1 per two people)

πŸ“ To line up tables so everyone can be facing each other (like in the videos)

Instructions:

πŸ“Β Instruct each person to face another person

πŸ“Β Tell everyone that you will be shouting out β€˜head’, β€˜shoulders’ and β€˜knees’ and they have to follow the instruction

πŸ“ Tell everyone that when you shout β€˜cup’, they have to grab the cup. First person to grab it wins!

πŸ“Β Rotate everyone so they don’t continually face the same person

πŸ“ Tell everyone to count how many wins they have!

πŸ“ One tissue box per player (like the kind of box in the video)

πŸ“ Tables for the tissue boxes to be placed on

Instructions:

πŸ“ Step 1 – Decide on whether you’ll play this game 1v1 or as a relay (like in the video)

πŸ“ Step 2 – Make sure you get the first tissue ready to be plucked from each box

πŸ“ Step 3 – Instruct each player that they can only use one hand to remove tissues (one hand to remove the tissues and the other hand on the box)

πŸ“ Step 4 – Instruct everyone that they can only remove 1 tissue at a time

πŸ“ Step 5 – Make sure no one does any digging with their hand to pluck out loads at once!

πŸ“ Step 6 – Get players started on your command and get ready for the mess! 😁

Fast Clappers Instructions

You will need:

πŸ“ All your team to be standing in a circle (like in the video)

**There are multiple levels to this game**

Level 1 Instructions:

πŸ“ Step 1 – Tell everyone that they will be timed how fast they can pass a clap around the circle. Pick someone to clap first. As soon as they clap, the person on their left has to clap. Then the person on their left, and so on etc.

πŸ“ Step 2 – Make sure the first person to clap goes exactly on your command to go

πŸ“ Step 3 – Get them started and time them!

πŸ“ Step 4 – Give them 5 goes to post the fastest time

πŸ“ Step 5 – Play the game at a later date and see if they can beat their previous PB!

Level 2 Instructions:

πŸ“ Step 1 – Tell everyone that they will be timed how fast they can pass a ‘low ten’ and ‘high ten’ around the circle (like in the video). Pick someone to go first to pass on a ‘low ten’ to the person to their left. After receiving the ‘low ten’, that person then has to pass a ‘high ten’ to the person on their left. This needs to go around the circle (low to high to low to high etc.) until it returns to the starting person.

πŸ“ Steps 2 to 5 – Same as level 1

πŸ“Β Step 4 – Give them 1 minute and get them to draw!

Fun Team Building Activities Provided By Team Building Facilitators

Great examples of fun team building activities provided by team building facilitators are escape rooms, drumming experiences, sports days, dance choreography and go karting! The list is endless!

Are professional team building facilitators worth it?

Yes. Yes they are! Why? Because you’ll get a professional team building facilitator who will light up your team. And think about this…you won’t have to facilitate yourself πŸ˜€.

Whether you’re looking for team building activities for large groups, group activities, indoor team building activities or outdoor team building activities, you should check out these team building facilitators:

How much do team building events cost?

Team building events costs vary but, for any activity listed on team building facilitators websites, prices start at around Β£750 for 1hr+ for your team building event. If you’re on a tight budget, or just looking for short activity to kick start a meeting, your best option would be to ring them up and say ‘I’ve got Β£x amount to spend on an activity, what can you provide?’

Three Fun Team Building Activities For Large Groups

Great team building activities for large groups are ones that energise the room with smiles and laughs. Facilitating team building activities for large groups is more challenging so ensure you always pick activities that don’t put too much pressure on you or make you feel uncomfortable about facilitating!

We’ve picked a few for you that we’ve played in thousands of our Laughtercise Corporate Team Building WorkshopsΒ and they always go down a treat!

Heads or Tails

This game is as simple as it gets for facilitation. It’s a great little activity to get everyone on their feet and creates a bit of competition.

You will need:

πŸ“ A coin (ideally a large coin like a 2p or 50p)

Instructions:

πŸ“ Step 1 – Get everyone standing up

πŸ“ Step 2 – Instruct everyone that you will be flipping a coin in the air. Tell them that, as it’s flipping, if you think it’ll land on heads, put your hands on your head. If you think tails, put your hand on your bottom. If you get it right, keep standing. If you get it wrong, sit down

πŸ“ Step 3 – Keep flipping until only one person is standing! (for large groups it will take longer)

Switch Hands!

This game will challenge and reinvigorate brain cells! How fast can you switch?? πŸ‘πŸ‘ˆ

Perfect for conferences! Written and video instructions below πŸ‘‡

Three Fun Team Building Ideas For Small Groups

Great team building activities for small groups are ones that energise the room with smiles and laughs. Facilitating team building activities for small groups can be tricky as people tend to be more ‘aware’ of how they look and sound when in a small group. Great team building exercises for small groups are ones that don’t rely on individual performance in front of the group!

We’ve picked a few for you that we’ve played in thousands of our Laughtercise Corporate Team Building WorkshopsΒ and they always create a great feeling.

Three Fun Team Building Activities For Management & Executive Teams

Team building activities for management and executive teams are incredibly important. Quite often, management teams only get to see each other in a few meetings per week or month. And when they do spend time together, it’s serious stuff. Team building activities for executive teams allow team members to be unserious. And that’s important to do every now and again because it allows people to bond away from the normal work patterns.

Take a peek at the below activities that we’ve played in thousands of our Laughtercise Corporate Team Building Workshops which always do the trick at bonding teams πŸ˜€

Team Building Activities FAQ’s

What is the problem with team building and icebreaker activities?

The problem with team building and icebreaker activities is that many people have a negative attitude towards them. Why? It’s a big question. A question we’ve tried to answer at Laughtercise. We’ve talked to hundreds of people, and one of our findings is certainly interesting: Never use the word ❌ ‘Icebreaker’ ❌

Give this article a read to find out more…Icebreaker Games For Work

stop using the word icebreaker

Another big problem is that team building activities (delivered in-house) haven’t evolved much over the last 30 years. One example is the game 2 truths and 1 lie.Β If you search on Google for team building activities, just about every resource will tell you to play this game with your work colleagues.

We’re telling you to NOT play it.Β

Why? Because after speaking to hundreds of people, most people don’t like doing it as a team building activity at work because…

πŸ“ It forces people to talk individually in front of a large group (and about themselves)

πŸ“ It forces people to talk in front of people they don’t feel completely comfortable with

πŸ“ The more extroverted team members will shine too bright and they’ll waffle on for ages!

How do you facilitate team building activities?

Here are some golden rules for facilitating team building activities:

⭐ Try to pick an activity that doesn’t force people to talk in front of the group

⭐ Try to pick an activity that doesn’t shine a bright light on individual performance

⭐ Be brave – pick an activity that most of your team won’t have done previously

⭐ Be prepared – have everything ready to go

⭐ Keep it short in comparison to the overall content/time of your meeting

person facilitating a team building session Β person facilitating a team building session

Why use team building activities?

Team building activities are a great way for your team to bond outside of normal working patterns. Team building activities should be used regularly throughout the year to help your team un-wind, de-stress and generally have some fun!

team playing a team building activityΒ  Β  team excited in a team building activity

As a manager of a team, when it comes to using team building activities throughout the year, you have three options:

πŸ“ Option 1: Do Nothing

πŸ“ Option 2: Do A Team Building Activity (but facilitate it in-house)

πŸ“ Option 3: Hire An External Team Building Facilitator/Business

Now, at his point you’re probably thinking ‘here he goes, looking for us to book his Laughtercise team building business’. I mean, that would be nice 😁, but I’m mainly looking for you to never EVER choose option 1. Option 1 should not be an option ❌

Just do something. Anything in fact. Anything other than option 1.

Your team deserve it βœ…

Β

How often should you facilitate fun team building activities?

It’s a good idea to facilitate in-house team building activities at regular points each year. But it’s about quality, not quantity. And think about your workload too, don’t take too much on. All you need are a few fun team building activities at a couple of meetings throughout the year and maybe one big team building event per year. Job done βœ…
